Social Model, Medically Supervised Detoxification

Detoxification from alcohol and other drugs can be an intimidating concept.  For years, many of us used and drank expressly to avoid withdrawal symptoms.  At Support Systems Homes, our medically supervised subacute (non-hospital-based) detoxification process ensures a safe, comfortable experience within a home-like, peer-oriented environment. Our detox program, located in California’s San Francisco Bay Area, is CARF-accredited and state licensed. 

Detox clients are monitored by qualified, experienced staff 24 hours a day. Our staff physician and nurses supervise the process and coordinate services as needed.  Each client is also assigned a counselor to work with during their stay.  When they are able to, detox clients are encouraged to participate in educational groups, group counseling sessions, and to work individually with their counselor.  

During the detox process, every effort is made to engage clients in longer-term treatment designed to promote recovery from alcoholism and addiction. Each client develops an individualized treatment plan with his or her counselor, learns to identify and cope with relapse “triggers” and designs a plan for maintaining sobriety after discharge. 

Cutting-Edge Detoxification Program for Opiate Addicts

Since 2003, Support Systems Homes has offered a cutting-edge detox program using a medication called Subutex for those dependent on opiates, including heroin and prescription drugs. Subutex is the sublingual (or "under the tongue") form of Buprenorphine, which, at low levels, enables, "opioid-addicted individuals to discontinue the misuse of opioids without experiencing withdrawal symptoms." (per the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency.)

Our Subutex program leads the field in safe, comfortable opiate detoxification and is supervised by our physician and nursing staff.
